Representative leadership leads to sustainable change. We must first lead by example to be part of this forward-thinking movement.
I'm Naomi López, running for El Paso County Commissioner in District 3.
My life's journey, deeply rooted in service to my community, has brought me to this exciting moment. I am an educator who has watched generations of educators in my family demonstrate the values of community service. As a speech-language pathologist, community organizer and educational advocate, I've dedicated years to ensuring the future leaders of our community realize their best possible outcomes. Now, I'm ready to take this commitment to the next level to serve all my neighbors to the best of my ability.
I am an active leader in my local teacher's union and the Past President of Neighbors for Education. I am a board director for the Colorado Springs Education Association, serve as the region representative for the Colorado Education Association Equity Council for Race and Culture, and am a founding member of the Latina Equity Foundation, where I served as Secretary.
Most importantly, I am the mother of a remarkable teen daughter who is my biggest inspiration to continue my work to make our community the most resilient and prosperous possible. I live in Colorado Springs' beautiful Westside with my daughter and our dog. I am proud to call El Paso County’s third district home for the past 18 years.
I hold a Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and mass communications from New Mexico State University.
As a pragmatic leader, I understand the importance of listening, empathizing, and then acting with informed judgment. These skills are crucial in leading with integrity, and I am prepared to use them to effectively represent all of you. We need sensible leadership that bridges divides and focuses on solving real issues that impact our daily lives.
Together, we can challenge the status quo and build a community where everyone has the opportunity to be heard and thrive.
